Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. operated under that name until the early 1940s when they were absorbed by True Value Hardware. Their knives were often made by contracted manufacturers in the U.S., with many pieces attributed to companies like Utica or Schrade.

Historical Note:
Based in Chicago, Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. was one of the largest hardware wholesalers in the country. Their "OVB" (Our Very Best) line became synonymous with high-quality tools and cutlery. This pen knife reflects the elegant utilitarianism that defined American pocketknives in the interwar period.

Collector’s Note:
With its bold coloring, slim profile, and tie-in to one of the great names in American hardware history, this knife is perfect for vintage EDC lovers, collectors of pre-war hardware store brands, or anyone drawn to unique jigged handle materials.

All knives in this shop are vintage or pre-owned unless stated otherwise. While many are in excellent condition, they may show normal signs of age or handling such as scuffs, blemishes, or blade wear. I try to document condition as accurately as possible in both the description and photos. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
