Description:
This is a charming vintage pen knife from Camillus Cutlery Co., made in New York, USA. It features mother-of-pearl style celluloid handles and two handy blades—perfect for the collector or as a nostalgic everyday carry piece. Camillus knives are known for their reliability and long-standing history in American cutlery, and this slim profile pen knife is a fine example of their mid-century craftsmanship.
Maker: Camillus Cutlery Co., New York, USA
Circa: 1950s–1960s
Blades: Two (pen blade and file/cleaner)
Length (closed): Approx. 3 1/4"
Handles: Pearl-like celluloid
Tang Stamp: “CAMILLUS NEW YORK USA”
Condition:
The blades show signs of use and age-related spotting, but both open and close with good snap. The handle scales are intact with minor scuffing and a natural yellowing typical for vintage celluloid, adding to its charm. One scale shows light cracking near the pin, stable and purely cosmetic.
Historical Note:
Camillus was a major force in American knife manufacturing throughout the 20th century, supplying everything from scout knives to military contracts. Small pen knives like this one were often carried by men and women alike for daily tasks, tucked in pockets or purses. They reflect a bygone era of simple, practical design.
Collector's Note:
Vintage pen knives are one of the easiest and most satisfying categories to collect. Their compact size, varied styles, and links to both personal and workaday life make them endlessly intriguing. This knife is a great addition to a starter collection or a thoughtful gift for someone getting into the hobby.
All knives in this shop are vintage or pre-owned unless stated otherwise. While many are in excellent condition, they may show normal signs of age or handling such as scuffs, blemishes, or blade wear. I try to document condition as accurately as possible in both the description and photos. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
